Career & College: Ready, Set, Go! NC State Board of Education Mission: “Every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and postsecondary education and prepared for life in the 21st Century.” Background of the tool and the impetus for moving to a strictly online tool. The NC State Board of Education is responsible for supervising and administering the free public school system and the educational funds provided for its support. The State BOE embraces the guiding mission and the commitment to keeping NC Public education on the cutting edge by using online tools. This commitment is evident through the latest resources and best practices in teaching and learning that are using technology to improve public schools and increase student achievement. John Tate as the local SBE representative - he’s someone great to contact with questions/concerns.

21st Century Skills Framework

The entire evaluation process is based on the NC Professional Teaching Standards. If your teachers are knowledgeable about this document, it will make your job as an evaluator much easier.

The Sixth Standard for Teachers:

Effective Teachers Effective Teacher Highly Effective Teacher Student Growth Meets Expectations Proficient or Higher on All Standards Effective Teacher Student Growth Exceeds Expected Growth Accomplished or Higher on All Standards Highly Effective Teacher We know that three years of data will be collected before any teacher’s performance is evaluated by student growth data, so few teachers are affected this year. Teachers will be evaluated on this standard as this graph reflects.

Annual Evaluation Policy:

Standards Overview Standard 1: Teachers Demonstrate Leadership Standard 2: Teachers Establish a Respectful Environment for Diverse Population of Students Standard 3: Teachers Know the Content They Teach Standard 4: Teachers Facilitate Learning for Their Students Standard 5: Teachers Reflect on Their Practice F2F: Create small groups. Each group is given a piece of chart paper to create a poster of the NC Teacher Professional Teaching Standards. The group is to focus on the gist of the NCPTS so they recognize what the actual standard is about. After about 7 minutes each group shares their product with the entire whole group. Gallery Walk around the room to examine each poster. Add and modify the posters as they are discussed. Total time 20 minutes 13
