Whakakotahi Evaluation The role of Evaluation and Synergia in Whakakotahi – Primary Care Improvement Challenge Dr Sarah Appleton-Dyer Angela Boswell 23 May 2017

Who we are Synergia is an Australasian based research and evaluation company that uses analytic-driven insights to support the development and improvement of health and social services. Examples of our evaluation work include: Elective Services Pathway Programme Evaluation (ACC, current) Evaluation of the Reducing Harm from Falls programme (HQSC, 2016) Evaluation of the Safe Use of Opioids Collaborative (HQSC, 2016) Evaluation of the new graduate nurse employment scheme for VLCA practices (MoH, 2015) Evaluation of the Physician Assistant Demonstrations (Health Workforce NZ, 2015) Examples of primary care work: Review of ATD and POAC services in Auckland, 2016 Hutt Valley Sustainable Primary Care Project, 2014 ARAHN support NHC Mana Tu HRC research grant

Evaluation Approach Formative evaluation This will provide feedback and learning on the Whakakotahi activities while they are being implemented. To support the development and improvement for ongoing implementation, future tranches, and other quality improvement initiatives. Summative evaluation To understand the implementation and achievements of Whakakotahi after it has been implemented over a sustained period. The formative and summative evaluation activities will provide a robust analysis of process and outcomes for the final evaluation report. Focus on learning from HQSC perspective about engaging primary care in QI

Learning across Whakakotahi Understanding the implementation of Whakakotahi, including barriers and enablers, and the impact it is making on primary care quality improvement projects, for example, increased quality improvement capability and it’s impact on patient outcomes, equity, consumer engagement, integration, and equity.
