1/22 – 5th Grade Microsoft Excel Test Miss Ament Computer Newsletter January 19, 2018 Dates to Remember Classroom News We are in the Home Stretch! The marking period is almost over. There is approximately two more weeks of computer classes. Please do not fall behind! Keep up the good work! Each class has approximately 1 more project to go. If you are not happy with your grade, now is the chance to change it! What We’re Learning Next Week Other Information Here Vocabulary Words What We’re Learning Next Week 5th Grade: Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Transition Effect 6th Grade: Digital Behavior Virus Identity Theft Online Piracy 7th Grade: Design 3-D Engineering Process 8th Grade: Robots Program Code 5th Grade: Students will master the basics of creating slide presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and similar programs such as Prezi and Keynote. Students will be able to create meaningful presentations. In addition, students will learn how to effectively present materials to an audience. 6th Grade: Students will learn the appropriate to conduct themselves on the Internet and when using computers. Students will take this knowledge and use it in order to code or create their own computer game that highlights these points. 7th Grade: Students will be able to put their creativity to the test and develop an aspect of their store into a 3D model. Students may choose to either develop a signature product to sell in a simulated market place, develop a 3D model of a product, or use 3D simulation technology to construct the inside of their store. 8th Grade: Students will complete several stations involving robotics. These stations will include a Raspberry Pi, a Sphero robot, Dot and Dash robot, Ozobots, and a Makey Makey board. Students will need to use the design process to create and use the robots to complete certain scenarios. Other Information Here Students should practice their typing whenever possible. As we are entering a time period where everything is becoming digital, students need to master typing and work on increasing their speed and accuracy. In school students take typing tests to monitor their skills. This is a one minute test found on typingtest.com They are expected to be able to type the following by the end of the year: 5th Grade – 20 words per minute 6th Grade – 25 words per minute 7th Grade – 30 words per minute 8th Grade – 35 words per minute Student Progress Please check the Student/Parent Portal for the most current, up-to-date grades for your student.
