adult Key Words Unit 1 ● Week 3 TEACHER TALK Point to the Word 1 image. 1. One word to learn this week is adult. Say it with me: adult. If you are an adult, you are not a child anymore. You become an adult when you grow up. 2. En español, adult quiere decir “adulto.” Una persona adulta ha dejado de ser niña. Uno se vuelve un adulto cuando ha terminado de crecer. 3. Adult in English and adulto in Spanish are cognates. They sound almost the same and mean the same thing in both languages. 4. Now let’s look at a picture that demonstrates the word adult. (Point to the adult gorilla with her baby.) This gorilla is an adult. The baby is not an adult. How are they different? (The gorilla is big. The baby is little.)   PARTNER TALK 5. Think of some adults that you know. Tell your partner who they are. (Examples include: mom, dad, teacher) 6. Work with your partner to use the word adult in a sentence. Tell your partner how old you will be when you’re an adult. Use the sentence frame: When I’m ____________ years old, I will be an adult. 7. To change means “to become different.” What are some ways that you might change as you grow? 2.
