IRB: What you need to know Are you currently certified by the institutional IRB to conduct research? (CITI is one way to become certified) Select the “hand raise” option on your Adobe session if you are certified
IRB: What you Need to Know Make contact with your IRB early Know that IRB procedures vary by institution Carleton College has EXEMPT status and this may be sufficient, depending on your institution The completed IRB application for FAMU is available from Richard Gragg and can be used as reference if you are required to complete the process on your own at your institution. In some cases the review of the lead grantee institution's IRB can serve, so long as the principles inherent in the review, involving knowledgeable and diverse representation, are respected (see 45 CFR 690.107). IRB: Next steps Find out whether you will need to submit an IRB application or whether the Carleton EXEMPT letter is sufficient for your institution IRB needed Find out the IRB decision schedule by early December and apply. IRB approval obtained Carleton IRB sufficient Before semester begins, determine whether you need implied or signed student consent.
