Rules of Trade… Discuss the following questions in your table groups: How can trade be utilized to improve the economy of a country? What do you think a trade agreement is? Do you think trade agreements may be necessary for a society to prosper? Unnecessary? Explain.

Trading with Others… Each person gets as many chips as they can grab, in a reasonable manner. Red chips represent food supply, blue chips represent water supply, and yellow chips represent natural resources. Now, you get a country… In order for your country to prosper, you need an equal amount of resources. The more resources you can get, the better! You may trade with other countries to get the chips they need. However, if your country is not in a trade agreement with the country with which they plan to make the trade, they must pay a “tax” of an extra chip to the tax collector – Mr. Glueck!
