People may be reluctant to change because they only see one way of doing things

Roll-Out: Conduct roll-out activities for staff, students, and family/community Implement all parts of PBIS Plan Conduct monthly Leadership Team meetings and report progress to all staff PBIS coordinator attends regular regional PBIS meetings

Post Implementation: Complete post-implementation evaluation When score shows fidelity, move to targeted level of PBIS

Laying the foundation for School-wide PBIS Why PBIS Readiness? Review readiness checklist and some strategies for getting 100% completion of this by First Steps to Implementation. Laying the foundation for School-wide PBIS

Stages of Implementation 2 – 4 Years Exploration Installation Initial Implementation Full Implementation Innovation Sustainability PBIS Foundation Phase PBIS Implementation Phase Implementation is not an event Implementation is a mission-oriented process involving multiple decisions, actions, and corrections The stages are not finite. They overlap and reoccur throughout the life of the initiative. Full implementation requires 2-4 years. What implications does this have for building capacity to sustain funding and staffing to continue the work? PBIS Sustainability Phase Fixsen, Naoom, Blase, Friedman, & Wallace, 2005

Stages of Implementation Explore Evidenced Based Practices that match needs Look at what it might take to implement new practice Exploration is always happening Exploration Put in place infrastructure to support new practice Make adjustments to allow for implementation Installation Begin to implement new practice May review components agreed upon in previous two stages Initial Implementation Implementation is happening throughout Care is taken to implement with fidelity Full Implementation © Dean Fixsen, Karen Blase, Robert Horner, George Sugai, 2008

What is PBIS Readiness? Intent to Implement Application: Partnership Agreement Readiness Checklist 3. School Information Form Review readiness checklist and some strategies for getting 100% completion of this by First Steps to Implementation.

Partnership Agreement State Team will... SU/District Team will... School will...

Readiness Checklist: Includes: Ensuring that discipline/behavior is top priority Roles of staff needed for implementation Staff awareness and “buy-in” Commitment to develop data system and use it for decision making

Readiness Checklist A School Action Plan exists that has school-wide discipline as one of its top three goals. This could be called a school improvement plan. It has to be a plan that is endorsed by the school board.

School Information Form Why? For establishing contact information Initiates school and SU account for PBIS evaluation tools

What questions do you have?

After the Break… School Teams meet to review Intent to Implement Application and consider steps to readiness Ask for support from PBIS TA Person (see handout) Complete the PBIS Perspective School Survey – please!!! 
