11/10/2018 Mission Statement AUA was founded with the commitment to support underserved communities and address the impending physician shortage with an emphasis on primary care. As such, the University recognizes its social responsibility to advance the field of medicine, and lead the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals to respond to global healthcare needs.

IN 2004 AUA is founded with an inaugural class of nine students In 2008 Manipal University and AUA unite: AUA will provide opportunities in global medical education and research. In 2010 AUA adopts the two-semester academic year calendar, officially mirroring the U.S. medical school schedule. In 2012 AUA is provisionally accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM- HP). In 2013 AUA signs landmark agreement with Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, permitting qualified AUA students to complete all their core clinical rotations in one location. In 2014 AUA Is accredited by CAAM-HP. History

Basic Sciences ( Semesters 1-4): Preclinical training is built into this curriculum. Courses employ a variety of teaching methods other than large group didatics. Such as small group sessions, clinical case discussions, simulations, and hands-on laboratory experience. Students are also placed in hospital settings. FIU Global Health md: The AUA-FIU Global MD Program is a comprehensive, four- year longitudinal track in global health that is integrated into the curriculum at American University of Antigua College of Medicine. The 2-year BASIC SCIENCE Component is conducted on the campus of AUA in Antigua. The CLINICAL SCIENCE component will be conducted at FIU clinical sites in Florida and AUA affiliated clinical sites within the US and abroad.  Fifth semester program: consists of the Basic Sciences Integration Course (BSIC) designed to synthesize, integrate, and reinforce what students have learned during their studies in the Basic Sciences. It is offered on AUA’s campus in Antigua over a ten week period. Students must achieve a certifying score on the Comprehensive Shelf Exam and, then, must also pass Step I of the USMLE before they can proceed to the Clinical Clerkships Curriculum

Clinical Sciences: Consisting of semesters 6 through 10, Clinical Sciences gives students the opportunity to interact with patients and hospital administrators at teaching hospitals throughout the United States, Canada, and India. Clinical Sciences consists of core and elective rotations that allow students to apply their Basic Sciences knowledge to real-world situations As of 9/16/15, AUA has a 97% first-time pass rate on Step 1 of the USMLE. When applying AUA has a rolling admissions policy, meaning there is no set due date for the applications. Classes begin in August and February. It is recommended to apply at least 2 to 3 months prior to these dates in order to complete the application process in a timely manner. It is recommended that applicants complete advanced science courses in Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, or Microbiology. AUA will not use MCAT scores as a condition for acceptance to the University

the on-campus simulation lab, which contains the latest medical simulators. These simulators include SimMan® 3G, SimBaby™, Noelle®, and Harvey®. Students need to complete 91 credits from semesters 1 – 5 All courses are graded on a pass/fail system: Honors (H), High Pass (HP), Pass (P), and Fail (F). Anatomy labs contain cadavers for dissection and prosection, plastinated body part specimens, models, X-rays, and CT and MRI sections. Computer stations provide instant access to Adams Atlas, V.H. Dissector, and prerecorded prosected demos. The lab’s dissection demos are captured and displayed on five high-definition monitors, using HD audiovisual systems. Quick Facts

Classrooms are Equipped with a high-speed network connection at every seat, blanket Wi-Fi coverage, high-definition video, and interactive lecture technology integrated with Blackboard Learn™. There are also numerous breakout rooms available. The library is Open 24 hours. Consists of 800-seats features a large, expanding collection of medical texts and journals. The collection has extensive online resources. While universal Wi-Fi lets students work from their own laptops, computer terminals are also available for use.
