Succeeding in the World of Work Innovative in approach and design Project-based learning Real-World Integrated Academics Common Core Standards Research-based reading strategies Critical Thinking Skills Universal Access Connect™ These are some of the key features of SWOW that we will be talking about today

Succeeding in the World of Work Innovative * Hybrid Learning Platform combines both print and online – the best of both worlds! * New Design Print Student Edition Succeeding in the World of Work is an innovative, project-based curriculum that combines print and online components in a unique blended platform that gives your students the best of both worlds. It’s more than just a book with online resources – it is an integrated learning platform that uses online projects, interactive activities, and video to bring concepts to life. Students will use the online resources and tools in McGraw-Hill Connect™ to interact with the content, apply what they have learned, and connect with each other and their instructors through collaboration and communication tools. New, Innovative Design – The new design incorporates avatars with traditional design elements that students will find fun and interesting McGraw-Hill Connect™

Succeeding in the World of Work Project-based Learning Project-based learning - Discovery Projects in each chapter require students to use critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and analysis skills. Challenge Projects provide opportunities for extended, in-depth explorations that require students to synthesize skills and concepts learned across several chapters. Discovery Projects are introduced in the student text, but completed in the online program. Online videos and other resources introduce the key concepts students need to complete the project. Discovery projects develop research, collaboration, communication and presentation skills.

Succeeding in the World of Work Real-World As a program focused on career- and life-skills, Succeeding in the World of Work is the definition of relevant. We focus on practical, real-world issues that are highly important for young people, such as “how do I get a job?”, “can I afford a place of my own?”, and “what are my rights as an employee?” Every student will find issues of personal relevance throughout the program. Students will also be asked to build relationships with peers and teamwork skills necessary for career success. Many of the Discovery and Challenge Projects require students to work together with partners or teams. Other projects require students to reach out to family or community members as they explore career options. Students need more than academic skills to succeed in the workplace. They need to understand their roles, rights, and responsibilities as workers. They also need a solid foundation in interpersonal and life skills. Succeeding in the World of Work is a comprehensive introduction to the 21st Century workforce. Students begin by examining their own strengths and interests and exploring careers opportunities. Then, they’ll learn how to find job leads, apply for jobs, and ace their first interview

Succeeding in the World of Work Academic Integration Academic Integration – Core academics –ELA, Math, Science, etc are integrated throughout the program. The Perkins act is fully supported with rigor, relevance and relationships. Succeeding in the World of Work is a rigorous academic course that supports development of both subject-specific knowledge and the academic skills supported by the Common Core Standards. Discovery and Challenge projects require extensive reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students will also use real-world math skills as they explore personal finance, tax and insurance topics. The program also emphasizes the critical thinking skills necessary for college and career success.

Succeeding in the World of Work Common Core Standards * Incorporated in both Math and English Language Arts * Prepare students for college and career success! Common Core Standards – Common Core Standards are incorporated in Math and English Language arts to prepare students for both college and career success.

Succeeding in the World of Work Research-based Reading Strategies Research-based reading strategies are in every section of every chapter to help students improve their reading skills and comprehension. A comprehensive explanation and teaching tips in the teacher materials enables the teacher to empower their students with good reading skills.

Succeeding in the World of Work Critical Thinking Skills There are many opportunities for students to use critical thinking skills.

Succeeding in the World of Work Universal Access * Teacher materials – in print and online – help teachers adapt the curriculum to the needs of all students! The teacher materials, available in both print and online, help teachers adapt the curriculum to the needs of all students.
