Presentation transcript:

BRANDING

BRANDING A brand is a name, term, design, symbol or other feature that distinguishes one seller's product from those of others. Brands are used in business, marketing, and advertising.

Brand Company Personal Professional

PERSONAL BRAND The practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands. While previous self-help management techniques were about self-improvement, the personal-branding concept suggests instead that success comes from self-packaging.

YOU ARE IN A COMPETITIVE JOB MARKET

HOW DO YOU STAND OUT? TOUGH TO IMPRESS HARD TO DIFFERENTIATE

PERSONAL BRAND REPUTATION

PROFESSIONAL BRAND A correctly defined professional brand makes certain an individual/company has identified, understands, and can communicate exactly who she is, what she does, and why anyone should care to remember her.

STRONG BRANDS HAVE A UNIQUE VALUE

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? BRAND/NO BRNAD

WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE MEAN TO YOU?

DISCOVER YOURSELF! What are your unique strengths, skills, and attributes? How do you choose the career that’s right for you? What do you want to be known for? What will make you stand out in the eyes of potential employers? It’s your reputation! It’s about bringing who you are to what you do and how you do it. It’s about making your mark by being yourself—your best self. Think of your personal brand as your calling card—your unique promise of value. It's what you're known for and how people experience you.

Who’s Creating Your Digital Dossier?

Questions -A digital dossier cannot begin until a person has been born. False -A digital dossier includes images shared where? Anywhere Online (Snapchat, Instagram, Flickr, Facebook…) -Parents, relatives, and friends can all contribute to a digital dossier of a newborn child? True

Questions -Search Engines like Google track user’s activities on the web using Cookies -What kinds of information do credit card companies add to an individual's digital dossier? Date and time of credit card purchases, amount and location Once a person is deceased, their digital dossier no longer exists. False

Who Should Create An Individual’s Digital Dossier? In Andy's story, his parents, family, and friends all contributed to his digital dossier before he had the chance to independently create it for himself. What are your thoughts about this? Should Andy have the right to create his digital identify or is it ok that it is being created for him? What are the pros and cons of this being done for him?

Impressed or Distressed What are the ramifications of a negative digital dossier? How could this affect your future? What would a college admissions officer or future employer think of your digital dossier?

Your Digital Dossier Now that you have an understanding of what a digital dossier is, and how it can be formed, it's time to take a look at your own digital dossier. Start this digital investigation by Googling yourself. Conduct both a web and an image search of your first and last name. Be prepared to share your findings . What you have discovered about your digital dossier after Googling yourself. Were the results of this digital self- investigation impressive? Surprising? Are there things about your digital identity you want to change? If yes, what can you do to make these changes?

You Have The Control Remember that you can control your digital dossier but that other people can contribute to it as well. The next time you post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. remember that you are making a digital mark that is permanent. Describe some of the steps you can take to ensure your digital dossier reflects what you want it to.
