Radiation effects Vitaly Avakyan

Radiation is an energy traveling through the space. Artificial Sources 15% Medicine-14% Nuclear power-1% Building/Soil-18% Cosmic-14% Radon-42% Food and drink-11% Natural Sources 85% We all experience radiation from natural sources every day!

have great penetrating power and can pass through the human body. X-rays have great penetrating power and can pass through the human body. X-rays and Gamma rays are virtually identical except that X-rays are produced artificially rather than coming from the atomic nucleus.

Dental X-rays, Are they Safe? The amount of radiation that patients are exposed to from dental x-rays is very small compared to daily exposure from things like cosmic radiation and naturally-occurring radioactive elements in our environment. In fact, the average American receives more radiation from sitting in front of computer monitors and televisions over the course of the year than from the x-rays taken at the dentist’s office. Further, most offices are now using digital sensors instead of film which require about 10% of the radiation. Lastly, it is standard of care to use a lead apron with a thyroid protection collar to further limit the small amount of scatter radiation from a dental x-ray.

Complications of Radiation therapy Oral cancer treatment requires high doses of radiation ; thus, person can develop opportunistic oral deceased: Mucositis Xerostomia Candidiasis Bacterial Infections Osteoradionecrosis Soft Tissue Necrosis Good oral hygiene is crucial in most cases!!!

Positive sides of Dental X-rays Dental x-rays provide valuable information that helps evaluate your oral health. Radiographs are often the only way that your dentist can look at what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. Because many diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues cannot be seen when your dentist examines your mouth, an X-ray examination is the only way to reveal:

Examples: small areas of decay between the teeth or below existing restorations (fillings); infections in the bone; periodontal (gum) disease; abscesses or cysts; developmental abnormalities; some types of tumors.

Thank you!!!
