Sometimes the areas of health will overlap and share different aspects. Often times people focus only on the physical part of their health. But it is important that all four parts remain balanced.

Health and Wellness Wellness is the state of good health achieved by balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and social health.

Health Assessment One of the best ways to evaluate your health is to take a health assessment. A health assessment is a set of questions that allows you to evaluate each of the four parts of your health.

Assignment Intro:2 Let’s see how you fare on a personal health assessment. In your journal answer each item. Give yourself: 4 points for each “almost always” 2 points for “some time” 0 points for “almost never”. There are no wrong answers. Be honest with yourself so you can see at what level your personal health is at and in what areas you can improve upon.

Health Assessment Health Habit Almost Always 4 Some Time 2 Almost Never 1. I am physically active regularly. 2. I eat a variety of foods, including fruits and vegetables. 3. I find it easy to relax and express my feelings. 4. I have close friends or relatives in whom I can confide. 5. I prepare for events that I know will be stressful to me. 6. I avoid risky behavior. 7. I practice good hygiene.

Health Assessment 2 Add up your scores. How did you do? Scores 23-28 means you have great health habits Scores 15-22 means your health habits are good overall, but there is room for improvement. Scores 7-14 indicates that many of your health habits need work. Scores 0-6 mean that you taking unnecessary risks with your health.

Evaluate Data How did the health assessment help you to better understand your personal health? In what area(s) are you doing well? In what area(s) do you need to focus more attention? How could assess your health on a regular bases help you to maintain good personal health?

Factors of Health What are factor of Health or what general things in your life that determine your health?

Factors of Health There are many things that influence your personal health. Heredity: the passing down of traits from a parent to child. You can not control what traits are passed down to you, but you can control how you deal with those traits. For example, if one of your parents wears glasses, you might have to wear glasses.

Factors of Health Environment: is everything around you, including the things you cannot see. The following are examples of how the environment can affect your health. Pollution Pollen that leads to allergies Second Hand Smoke

Factors of Health Peers: Someone who is the same age or is in the same grade as you and who has similar interest Peers can have both positive and negative affects on your health. For example, peers can help you make good decisions in difficult situations (positive influence) or they can push you into making a poor decisions (negative influence)

Factors of Health Media: The media is a major source of information about health. Newspaper, television, radio, and the web are just some examples of media. Not all media messages are beneficial or should be believed. For example, products that promise that you can lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time would not be an accurate source of information.

Factors of Health Your lifestyle is a set of behaviors by which you live. For example, choosing whether of not you will exercise today is a lifestyle choice. Another example would be choosing not smoke. Both examples have an affect on your body, one has a short term effect while the other has a long term effect.

Factors of Health Your attitude is the way you act, think, or feel that causes you to make one choice over another. Having a healthy attitude will help you make better choices and gain confidence.

Factors of Health Preventive healthcare is taking the steps necessary to prevent illness or accidents Some examples would be yearly health check ups, buckling your seat belt, and wearing a helmet when riding a bike or skate boarding.

Heredity Negatives Positives Heredity Heredity You need to list at three positive and negative health issues in each categories of heredity, environment, peers, media, lifestyles, attitude, and preventive health care. When you are done there should be 21 positives and negative listed. Negatives Heredity Having been born with Cystic Fibrosis. Skin cancer runs in the family. Not being able to spell. Positives Heredity Having genes that are good with math. Being tall. Having straight teeth.

Goal Setting Smart Goals S – Specific (or Significant). M – Measurable (or Meaningful). A – Attainable (or Action- Oriented). R – Relevant (or Rewarding). T – Time-bound (or Trackable). Example Complete Masters I will get a certificate I can go to university of phoenix Pay raise and increase job outlook I start in 1 years. I need my level 2 first

Who’s fault is it? Blame Responsibility
