Promoting Quality Improvement & Clinical Quality Michael Bedrosian DVHIMSS March 29th, 2012
PHMC & HCCNs Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) is a nonprofit public health institute that builds healthier communities through partnerships with government, foundations, businesses and community-based organizations. A Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) is a group of safety net providers collaborating horizontally or vertically to improve access to or quality of care.
Without quality processes: Health center staff already have demanding jobs, and are asked to be more productive Their work is specialized (e.g. front desk, clinical, billing and administration) Quality becomes defined as efficiency within one's specialty So defined, there is no time for team quality Quality becomes an afterthought, or a reaction to a specific project The remedy is a team process with incentives for all team members.
Quality is a Process The result, after a number of quality cycles? A better "best" practice The very act of organizing quality cycles can change the way providers and administrative staff think There's no end to this, once you get started: “Quality is a process, not a product.”
