Case Study: Tauran – Civil Engineer I’m Tauran, a Civil Engineer (MCIPS) in Manchester City Council’s Highways Team. I attended Bradford University and did a masters in Civil and Structural Engineering, whilst working part-time. To start with, my day to day activities included maintaining pot holes, liaising with contractors and working with subcontractors. I then chose to move to the Highways Team to further my development. To do my role, I need communication skills with the willingness to learn. At first, it was intimidating as I knew little about the role, but with the support and guidance of my colleagues my confidence grew. I like that there are opportunities to further my development with a range of courses. I have been able to complete a Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) so I can achieve a higher level of Engineering and have the possibility of going into Project Management in the future. Anyone who is considering doing an Apprenticeship shouldn’t feel pressured, take your time to choose the right Apprenticeship for you.
