I can describe what can/can’t be recycled in Phoenix. Learning target I can describe what can/can’t be recycled in Phoenix. Today I am… learning about waste management and the recycling process. So that I’ll be able to… understand what happens to our trash. I’ll know I’ve got it when… I can list the three methods of waste disposal and one item that can and can’t be recycled in Phoenix.

What can be recycled in Phoenix? Write at least 2! Phone books, all hard plastic bottles/containers including buckets, food or beverage glass bottles and jars only (with the lids removed), office paper (staples do not need to be removed), shredded paper (placed in clear plastic bags), newspapers (remove plastic bags and rubber bands), magazines, catalog, comic books, cardboard, if you flatten the boxes to fit in the blue can.

What can be recycled in Phoenix? Write at least 2! Cereal and cookie boxes, tissue, and gift boxes (remove any liners), milk/juice cartons, 6 and 12-pack paper soda cartons, juice boxes, frozen food boxes, junk mail, aluminum cans, clean pie plates and foil, envelopes with plastic windows, steel cans – soup cans, metal hangers, scrap metal under 25 pounds including small appliances (no tv’s), aerosol cans - no spray paint, oven cleaners.

What can’t be recycled in Phoenix? Write at least 4! No plastic bags, pool chemical/household hazardous waste containers, clothing, foam peanuts, bubble wrap, windows, mirrors, ceramics or dishes, light bulbs, credit cards, dry detergent or bar soap boxes, loose shredded paper, rubber bands, towel or tissue rolls, facial or toilet tissue, paper towels, plates, napkins, gift wrap, mylar balloons, photographs, diapers, pet food bags, FedEx or self-sealing envelopes, grass or yard waste, food.

Recycling loop To complete the loop, consumers must purchase goods made from recycled materials.

Composting The conversion of organic waste into mulch or humus. The compost can be used to enrich soil.
