“The Danger of Apathy”

“Apathy” Apathy may be a problem that we are struggling with. “Apathy” is synonymous with… “Lack of concern” “Lack of interest” “Laziness” “Boredom” Apathetic attitudes may lead us toward being idle, which is NOT a good thing (1 Timothy 5:11-15)

Potential Contributors to Apathy Gluttony (Intemperance) (Proverbs 25:16, 27) There are limits to the amount of “good things” we handle before it becomes harmful to us. Constant pleasure-seeking can take our eye off of the work that needs to be done. (Ezekiel 16:49-50, Amos 6:3-7) Covetousness brings sorrow (1Timothy 6:10)

Potential Contributors to Apathy Under-exertion Proverbs 12:27 “The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession.” Proverbs 19:15 “ Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger.” Proverbs 19:24 “A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.” Proverbs 26:14 “As a door turns on its hinges, So does the lazy man on his bed.” 2 Thessalonians 3:11 “For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies.”

Solutions to Apathy Learn to be content, Luke 12:15 Proverbs 15:16 “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure with trouble.” Proverbs 15:17 “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred.” Proverbs 16:8 “Better is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice.” Godliness with contentment is a large gain. (1 Timothy 6:6-10) Are you content with your lot in life? (Philippians 4:11-13)

Solutions to Apathy Apply a diligent approach to life! Mark 7:21-22, Sins come from our heart – our own attitudes. Determine not to be apathetic!!! Consider passages such as these, Romans 12:9-13, Hebrews 6:10-12, Colossians 3:23-25! Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”

Solutions to Apathy Actively seek spiritual growth. 2 Peter 1:5-11, Improving yourself and improving your knowledge will ensure that you do not grow indifferent! 2Peter 3:18 “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

The topic of “Apathy” Possible contributors Over-indulgence with regard to life’s pleasures The dangers that come along with affluence Covetousness Under-exerting ourselves

Be Someone New!! No longer live for yourself, but for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14-17) Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” John 15:8 “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
