Introduction and background This summer I am working with Ken Christensen in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Dr. Christensen and his graduate students research issues dealing with computer networks . My function is to bring meaningful, simple data analysis problems, dealing with Internet performance, into the 5th – 8th grade classroom. 11/11/2018

Purpose To bring modern mathematics tools and interesting applied mathematics problems, related to computer science, into the middle school classroom. The tool that we have selected is StudyWorks!®, which is a math resource based off of MathCAD. The computer science problem: “Identifying the factors that cause Internet Delay”. In order to be successful I must first learn basic computer science. 2.This is a problem simple enough for my students to understand. 11/11/2018

Primary Goals To have middle school students work on real problems that will spark an interest in mathematics and science. To learn basic computer science especially in the area of Internet performance and how it affects a computer network. Develop basic computer science experiments for middle school students. Use a mathematics tool to analyze these experiments. Develop a website to display the lessons that will be created. 11/11/2018
