The Eliminate Project 2013 District Conference
What is The Eliminate Project? A global partnership to prevent MNT A chance for you to save a life A global partnership between UNICEF and Kiwanis International. Every branch of the Kiwanis Family has made The Eliminate Project a priority.
Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere Caused by open wounds during childbirth Tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch Tetanus spores are found in soil everywhere. Often times, bamboo grown from the ground is used to cut the umbilical cord. Since the bamboo is grown in soil this is how tetanus is often contracted.
Who does the effect? The poorest of the poor There are still 32 countries being affected by MNT The people that are effected are those who do not access to the medical are we have in America. The victims of MNT have probably never seen a hospital and are uneducated on sterial heath care.
How do we stop this? It only takes $1.80 to vaccinate a mother and all of her future babies 110 million dollars will eliminate MNT from the face of the Earth. We will be protecting over 61 million lives The reason we don’t have to worry about MNT here is because of the vaccinations we have received. The vaccination for MNT is given in three 60 cent doses. There are over 61 million women and children who are susceptible to contracting MNT. In order to vaccinate and protect everyone at risk, we must raise 110 million dollars.
Important numbers 110 Million dollars to be raised $1.80 saves a life Our goal is 2015 61 million lives protected 1 baby dies every 9 minutes Currently, 1 baby dies every 9 minutes due to MNT. Our goal to raise the 110 million dollars is by 2015.
