What is the internet? Millions of computers linked together that can access information from one another Could be described as a ‘network of networks’ On 29 October 1969, engineers 400 miles in America prepared to exchange data on what was then known as Arpanet. It got the name because it was commissioned by the US Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (Arpa). Although we cant really say when the internet was born most people thing that it was 40 years ago, a few days ago, when the first data was sent over THE INTERNET. Interestingly, the first words that were supposed to be typed were “Log On”, but it crashed after the L and O.
