Literary Analysis Definition A literary analysis carefully examines a text, or one element of a text, such as character, setting, plot or theme of a story.

Story Elements Defined Setting- where and when the story takes place. Characters- are the people in the story. Some characters are more developed than others. Plot-sequence of events in a story. The plot contains a problem that the main character needs to solve. Exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution are all parts of the plot. Theme- an important message about life that the author wants readers to understand. A story can have more than one theme.

Intro Paragraph- Have you ever wondered if a friendship could be ruined by competition? Well that's exactly what characters Antonio and Felix experienced. Both boys had lived and trained in the Bronx for years, but now they were faced with their biggest match...against each other! In the short story, "Amigo Brothers" by Piri Thomas, one significant theme is that true friendship can triumph over competition. The author develops this theme through the actions and dialogue of the characters.
