What are tides?

Does Lake Erie have tides? Um, no. Lake Erie can experience a seiche that is caused by winds, but not tides… Too small.

What causes tides? They are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. The moon’s pull is stronger because it is closer.

Based on the Diagram, which are larger? SPRING TIDES Because the sun and moon are pulling in the same direction.

So… During which moon phases would the spring tide occur?

New & Full Moon

Neap Tides? 1st & 3rd Quarter

How many tides a day? 2 high tides 2 low tides

Why are there not exactly 12 hours between tides? because the moon revolves around the Earth while the Earth rotates

solar and lunar eclipses? What’s the difference between solar and lunar eclipses? Solar Lunar Earth goes into moon’s shadow moon goes into Earth’s shadow

Solar Eclipse 2017

Solar Eclipses through 2030

Next Lunar Eclipse: January 31, 2018

solar and lunar eclipses Why don’t we have solar and lunar eclipses every month? The moon’s orbit is tilted 5° from the Earth’s orbit.
