Super Bowl 52 FUN FACTS

$22 million New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady was the 8th highest paid quarterback in the NFL, earning $22 million this season.

$7.3 million Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz, last year’s #2 pick in the NFL Draft, was the league’s 24th highest paid quarterback this season, earning over $7 million in salary.

$7.6 million Ranked one spot ahead of Wentz in terms of 2018 compensation is Nick Foles, the Eagles’ backup QB. Foles, who will start in the Super Bowl in place of an injured Carson Wentz, will earn $7.6 million. Combined, the two will earn $7 million less than Brady this year.

$26.5 million Matthew Stafford, quarterback for the Detroit Lions, was the NFL’s top paid quarterback this season, earning $26.5 million

71,795 The capacity of U.S. Bank Stadium, the $1.2 billion home to the Minnesota Vikings and this year’s Super Bowl site, is 66,655

$220 million US Bank will pay a reported $220 million for the naming rights to the home of the Minnesota Vikings

17.5% The NFL distributes 17.5% of available tickets to each participating team (Philadelphia and New England)…the league keeps 25% and the host team (Minnesota Vikings) receive 5% of the overall inventory (serving as an incentive for building new NFL stadiums)

111.3 million Over 111 million viewers tuned in to see the New England Patriots’ epic comeback win vs. the Atlanta Falcons in last year’s Super Bowl. That number represents the 4th largest audience in Super Bowl history.

172 million Lady Gaga’s halftime performance at last year’s Super Bowl drew 117.5 million viewers, 2nd most all-time (behind Katy Perry’s 2015 halftime show). However, including digital platforms, Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime pulled in a staggering 172 million viewers, a new record.

$10 million The NFL paid an estimated $10 million on the production of last year’s half-time show starring Lady Gaga. Some analysts suggest this year’s show, starring Justin Timberlake, will surpass that figure.

338 The weight of 1.33 billion wings would come in at roughly 166.25 million pounds, or 338 times more than the combined weight of every player on a NFL roster.

11,000 The Super Bowl is the biggest day of the year for Pizza Hut. This year they expect to sell more than 2 million pizzas. To prepare, the pizza chain will hire an estimated 11,000 people to help cook and deliver its pies to hungry Super Bowl fans.

$400 million One estimate suggests the Super Bowl will bring $400 million in visitor spending to the Minneapolis / St. Paull area economy as fans flock to the city and spend money on hotels, food and entertainment

$50,000 The Vince Lombardi Trophy, awarded to the Super Bowl winner, costs $50,000 to and its iconic design is featured in the Super Bowl logo. Tiffany’s has been producing the trophy since the first Super Bowl way back in 1967.

$4 billion According to the American Gaming Association, sports fans will wager more than $4 billion in bets for this year’s Super Bowl. An estimated 97% of those bets will be made illegally.
