Financial Aid – Things to Know Paying your fees and tuition is the responsibility of the student and family. All students are required to complete a Federal FAFSA application online at http://fafsa.ed.gov each year to determine eligibility for Financial Aid programs. All programs are not eligible for Federal Funds. Changes to schedules (number of hours, drop/add, withdraws) can affect your Financial Aid. All students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and successfully complete at least 67% of all courses attempted and must not exceed 150% of the required semester hours for the program. Students should be aware that the number of hours that the HOPE Grant and the HOPE Scholarship will pay is limited, and it is the student’s responsibility to know and understand where he or she stands in relationship to these limits.

Financial Aid HOPE Zell Miller Grant Student Access Loan Pays 100% tuition to students with a 3.5 GPA enrolled in a certificate or diploma program Student Access Loan State funded private 1% interest rate loan, random selection process, no guarantee (STUDENTS MUST APPLY FOR FEDERAL AID FIRST). Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant Pays additional aid to students enrolled in eligible programs

Financial Aid - Resources Pell and FSEOG Grant The Pell Grant are funds awarded to students that have proven a financial need for assistance based on the information reported on the FAFSA. The Office of Financial Aid does not determine eligibility. The FSEOG Grant is also awarded to students that have proven a financial need, however funds are limited and awarded on a first come-first serve basis. The Pell and FSEOG Grants only cover degree and diploma programs. The only certificate covered by Federal funds is Health Care Assistant. Both funds are available to provide assistance with tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, etc.

Financial Aid - Resources HOPE Grant and Scholarship The HOPE Grant is awarded to Georgia residents enrolled in either a certificate or diploma program. The HOPE Scholarship is awarded to Georgia residents enrolled in degree programs only. Both HOPE programs pay $70.00 per credit hour. This will only cover a portion of tuition. The student is responsible for the remaining balance. A Georgia residence for the HOPE program is 12 months graduating from a Georgia High School or 24 months if student did not. Students with Bachelor’s Degree or higher are not eligible for HOPE. HOPE Grant cap is 63 semester hours. HOPE Scholarship is 127 semester hours. GPA requirement is 2.0 for HOPE Grant and 3.0 for HOPE Scholarship.

Financial Aid - Resources Direct Stafford Loans from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, are low-interest loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education. These loans include: Direct Subsidized Loans- Direct Subsidized Loans are for students with financial need which is determined from your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are not charged interest while you’re in school at least half-time (6+ hrs.); however, interest accrues during grace periods and deferment periods. Direct Unsubsidized Loans- Direct Unsubsidized Loans are not based on financial need. This loan like all aid is based on your enrollment status (6 hours or more) and budget. Interest accrues (accumulates) from the time it’s disbursed. You can pay the interest while you are in school or you can allow it to accrue and add to your balance.

Financial Aid – Resources Work-study A need-based federal grant to help students earn money by working at designated offices on and off campus. Must complete the FAFSA and possess a financial need. May work up to 20 hours per week; $8.00 per hour; paid monthly. Work-study jobs are posted on the SCTC Website at http://www.sctech.edu/about/employment.php
