Introduction To Engineering Section Views - 2 Agenda Learn how to make section views other than full and half sections Section Views - 2

Types of Section Views Offset sections Broken-out sections Revolved sections Removed sections

Offset sections Offset sections are used to show interior features that do not lie along a straight line Section Views - 2

Offset sections Figure 3.16, pg 79 Note that the cutting plane makes 90° angles that are obvious. However, the front view (section view) does not show where the 90° turns were made in the cutting plane. See the next slide for an example. Figure 3.16, pg 79, IGCE Bertoline Figure 3.16, pg 79 Section Views - 2

Offset sections Section Views - 2

Broken Out Sections A broken-out section view is created by breaking off part of the object to reveal interior features

Broken Out Sections

Revolved Sections A Revolved section is created by passing a cutting plane through the object, then revolving the cross section 90° Section Views - 2

Revolved Sections Revolved Section

Removed Sections A removed section view is created by making a cross section, then moving it to an area adjacent to the view. In removed sections, the section view consists only of the sections removed at the cutting plane and not the entire sectioned part. Thus, the section views are views of thin slices of the cross section along the cutting plane. The students need to understand this convention in removed sections. Section Views - 2

Removed Sections Removed Section A Section A-A Note that the cutting plane is labeled with an A at each arrow, and the removed section is labeled A-A. In some drawings, there may be multiple removed sections, e.g. A-A, B-B, C-C, etc… Section Views - 2
