Daily Class Materials Literacy Notebook – 2 comps that are taped together are needed everyday in class. Independent Reading Book A personal supply bag of pencils, pens, markers, glue sticks, etc.

7th Grade English The biggest difference from 6th grade to 7th is that we now only have one class period to teach both Reading and Writing. Students will be taking both the Reading and Writing STAAR this year as well. It is very important for class time to be used wisely and homework to be completed on time since we have twice as many objectives and half as much time as before. Once you get behind it is hard to catch up!!!!

Independent Reading Read often and respond to reading in writing. Reading mini-lessons are embedded then applied to the independent reading. Read 150 minutes a week. Log reading online and in comp book. Develop a response to reading in the IRR. Read across genre by completing a Literary Bingo each six weeks. Each 6 weeks has specific genre focus as we examine different types of literature as readers and transfer that to our writing. Online reading log and response is done through the Learn2earn website. Students received account and login information earlier this week. Please sign the form and activate you student’s account so they can get started.

Writing Writing: Writing mini-lesson are embedded and applied to student writing. Continue grammar and conventions Personal Narrative Essays Expository Essays Persuasive Writing We also continue to build a writing inventory and discover who we are as writers and explore other types of writing as well.
