What Kind of shape is our ship in? Reflecting on the 2017-2018 Voyage Charting a Course for new destinations Using Iowa achievement data Quick welcome; state purpose; emphasize time limitations and prompt for moving quickly through our agenda so the most amount of time can be spent working collaboratively on new goals. Review the goal(s) created by your cluster last summer Reflect on the progress your campus made toward meeting the Cluster goal Choose an icon on your handout that best fits your reflection Write a short summary of why you chose that particular icon to represent your reflection How was the voyage? Everyone will have an opportunity to reflect and share about the voyage toward goal attainment. Handouts are specific to each cluster, with the goals from last year on the handout. Principals will review their goal, then write a short reflection and will choose an icon that aligns the closest with how the “voyage” was. 3mins

Find your “SHIPMATES” and share your reflection in a small group Principals will each have a picture of a kind of boat. Small groups form and they will share reflection-10 minute total-hard stop.

Cluster Representative will discuss: The Goal Why it was chosen Result at end of the year Professional practices that helped attain the goal “Storms at sea” that were experienced which created obstacles What (if anything) would be done differently Invite Cluster Leader to discuss the tri-fold display according to bulleted prompts 5-7 miniutes

Where do we go from here? Discuss transitioning to goal setting, use analogy of ship captain using important tools for the new voyage, and goals are very important for successful navigation 1 minute

Work collaboratively on the following tasks using your campus Iowa Assessment results: Identify common academic areas where student growth is needed Agree upon one or more academic areas to draft goals for Write the goal statement according to the provided template Evaluate the goal using the following checks: Is the goal specific, with a beginning data point and an ending data point? Is the scope of students appropriate and specific? i.e. “our students will” is too broad Is the goal important for sustained academic learning? Is it realistic, set too low, or set too high? Agree upon what reliable data will be used to measure progress at checkpoints during the year Remind them they have done this before and it should be familiar. Looking Closer at Professional practice goals Focused on instructional Practice Directly Related to academic goal Based on the fact that 50% of my students currently score below Benchmark on the DIBELS/TRC, my goal is that by April, 2012, 100% of my students will score reading level F or higher on the same assessment by April, 2013.  Progress toward this goal will be measured by collecting and analyzing DIBELS/TRC benchmark data, progress monitoring and running records. In order to meet this goal, I will follow the Readers Workshop model to develop well-structured lessons (I-A-4). Each literacy lesson will include posted objectives, a mini-lesson with the whole class, independent reading time in which students respond to what they are reading in a journal, and sharing time during which students share their thoughts and receive feedback from peers. I will conference with individuals and small groups of students during independent reading time, focusing on students who need the most support. I will monitor progress on this goal using a log of lesson plans as well as a log of notes from student conferences. (I-A-4.
