Important Dates/Events: Minoans Origins: Developed on the island of Crete Began around 2000 BC Named after the famous King Minos Important Dates/Events: Around 1400 BC the civilization ended 1898- discovery of the Minoans after finding the Palace of Knossos Descriptive Words: Lively Active Traders Happy/enjoyed life Built gardens and temples What happened to them? - Nobody knows for sure but most likely the civilization was destroyed by a volcano or huge tidal wave

Important Dates/Events: Mycenaeans Origins: Came to Europe from Central Asia Settled in Southern Greece Mycenae was the most important city and what the civilization is named after Important Dates/Events: -1400 BC- Mycenae was the most powerful civilization in the Mediterranean 1250 BC- attacked Troy (Trojan War) 750 BC Homer wrote the famous Trojan War story in his epics 1870- city was found Descriptive Words: Warlike Ship builders What Happened to Them? - Nobody knows for sure but most likely either a natural disaster like drought destroyed the civilization or fighting within the civilization made the Mycenaeans weak leaving them vulnerable to attack by the Dorians in 1100 BC

Important Dates/Events: Dorians Origins: There are many theories about how the Dorians came to be but according to Greek legend, they came from a city in central Greece called Doris. Not really archeological evidence to support Important Dates/Events: Invaded the mainland of Greece in 1100 BC – invaded the Mycenaeans Descriptive Words: Less advanced than the Mycecaeans but had iron weapons Heavily influenced by the Greeks What Happened to Them? The Dorians either merged with mainland Greeks (the Mycenaeans) and lived amongst them or - The Dorians created independent communities that became the first of the Greek city-states.
