gEtting to know the writer Joanne Rowling was born on 31st July 1965 at Yate General Hospital just outside Bristol, and grew up in Gloucestershire in England and in Chepstow, Gwent, in south-east Wales. Her father, Peter, was an aircraft engineer at the Rolls Royce factory in Bristol and her mother, Anne, was a science technician in the Chemistry department at Wyedean Comprehensive, where Jo herself went to school. Jo wanted to be a writer from an early age. She wrote her first book at the age of six – a story about a rabbit, called ‘Rabbit’. At just eleven, she wrote her first novel – about seven cursed diamonds and the people who owned them.
She studied French to please her parents She studied French to please her parents. She had originally wanted to study English literature, but her parents felt that it would take her nowhere. In 1987, she earned a bachelor's in French and the Classics. Shortly after graduating, she began working for Amnesty International as a researcher (and she continues to donate to them to this day). Rowling's passion for writing never ended. She would continue to write stories on her free time. In 1990 on a train ride back to London, she got the idea to write Harry Potter. She would loosely base a lot of the situations Harry experienced in the story on her own life, including losing a parent. December 1990 was a dark time for Rowling: her mother Anne passed away due to multiple sclerosis. Life didn't get any easier. In 1991, she would eventually move to Portugal to become an English teacher, and experienced a failed marriage. She continued to write Harry Potter, and used the effects of her mother's death and other problems she was experiencing to develop the character of the young wizard.
J. K. Rowling is actually her pen name J.K. Rowling is actually her pen name. Some writers use a pen name instead of their real names. The main reason for Rowling's was based on a publishing suggestion. Publishers felt that her Harry Potter series would not sell well if readers knew that a woman wrote a wizards tale. So Rowling chose to use the abbreviation 'J.K.' Rowling had no middle name, so she added the K to pay homage to her grandmother's name 'Kathleen'. Her best-known works include: Harry Potter Books 1-7 The Casual Vacancy The Cuckoo’s Calling

Summary / plot The book is all about the boy named Harry Potter. Who's parents, James and Lily Potter, murdered by evil Lord Voldemort puts a killing curse on Harry, just a baby. The curse inexplicably reverses, defeating Voldemort and searing a lightning-bolt scar in the middle of the infant's forehead. Harry is then left at the doorstep of his boring but brutish aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. For 10 years, Harry lives in the cupboard under the stairs and is subjected to cruel mistreatment by Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and their son Dudley. On his 11th birthday, Harry receives a letter inviting him to study magic at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
While studying at the restricted section in the library, Harry discovers that the Sorcerer's Stone produces the Elixir of Life, which gives its drinker the gift of immortality. After realizing that Voldemort might be after the stone, Albus Dumbledore had it moved it to Hogwarts for safekeeping. Harry finds out that when she died, Lily Potter transferred to her son an ancient magical protection from Voldemort's lethal spells. This protection is what allowed Harry as an infant to survive Voldemort's attack. It also helps Harry keep Voldemort from possessing the Stone, which Dumbledore agrees to destroy.

excerpts “Your mother died to save you. If there is one ting Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn’t realize that love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign…to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin.” In this lines it means that a love of a mother is unconditional, no one can replace it nor destroy it. A mother could sacrifice everything she has just to protect her children, and that love is one of the most powerful thing in the world.
‘...the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things which are worst for them’ This means that the difficult thing about humans is that, even if there is a choice of simple and easy way, people tend to choose those regrettable choices that would make their life complicated.
‘It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, more desperate desire of our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. Ronald Weasley, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers, sees himself standing alone, the best of all of them. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible.’ In these lines it means that some people grew up without a parent, but life is too short and only you can make a choice on whether to move forward and live life fully or to live your life miserable.
‘Always the innocent are the first victims’ It means, in this world that is full of temptation those people who are innocent and blind about the truth are the ones who will easily be tempted and often framing innocent people for this crimes.
‘It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live’ It means, it is alright to have dreams in life but be sure to remember that there’s life beyond dreams. We must never lose our grip on reality.
