The Milestone Concept Capitalizing on the milestones that occur naturally in the lives of your children For each milestone: Woodlawn will host an equipping event for parents We will celebrate together through various types of church events We will provide ideas to assist parents in conducting a home event Resourcing parents with helpful tools

Milestones for Children

Milestone #1 – Family Commitment Equipping Event - Online teaching and handouts about parental responsibilities and the legacy path Church Event – Mother’s/Father’s Day brunch and Family Commitment Ceremony during the morning worship service Home Event – N/A

Milestone #2 – Salvation and Baptism Equipping Event – “Leading a Child to Faith in Christ” or “Inheritance” training on a Saturday or in Sunday School Church Event – Baptism followed by “I’m a Christian Now,” “Student Survival Kit” or “Paul/Timothy” discipleship Home Event – Spiritual birthday party including significant spiritual influencers and commemorating the occasion

Milestone #3 – Preparing for Adolescence Equipping Event – Preparing for adolescence parent seminar covering topics such as identity in Christ, changes and difficulties in adolescence and spiritual disciplines Church Event – 5th and 6th grade retreat every other year covering similar topics with preteens Home Event – Father/Son or Mother/Daughter road trip for fun, relational and instructional time together

Milestones for Students

Milestone #4 – Purity for Life Equipping Event – Seminar on leading your student in purity/conversations to have with your student Church Event – True Love Waits Retreat/D’Now every 2-3 years with a Commitment to Purity Ceremony Home Event – Family Meal with Purity Ring or another means of commemorating their commitment

Milestone #5 – Passage to Adulthood Equipping Event – Seminar introducing parents to curriculum/resources that will be used Church Event – (for High School Jrs. & Srs.) The Baptist Catechism/Weekend Get-Away to kick off the year Home Event – Rite of Passage Ceremony – be creative

Milestone #6 – High School Graduation Equipping Event – N/A Church Event – Graduation Sunday…Family Brunch, Graduate Recognition during Worship Service, Dinner for HS Graduates followed by Dessert and Prayer Time with parents @ one of the Graduate’s Homes Home Event – Family Dinner/Party or Meaningful Senior Trip with family as opposed to beach trip or cruise with friends

Milestone #7 – Life in Christ Equipping Event – Getting plugged in to your local church and its ministry opportunities Church Event – Worship & Bible Study… Life Groups/Discipleship, Membership/New Member Class, Spiritual Gifts/Spiritual Disciplines Class Home Event – Personal Quiet Time & Practicing Spiritual Disciplines
