Dig In Sunday School Parent Meeting 5/19/18

New Curriculum- What is it? Dig In: Creating deeper Bible experiences for kids Intense chronological study of the life of Christ for one year Discipleship Bible Release a new study each year More interactive Sing-along music videos with motions Object lessons High/low energy games Crafts

What are the changes? Separation into age groups so that the lesson is more accessible to all kids Grades K-3 (Heather/Stacie) Grades 4-6 (Lauren) **We will start together in the new room for worship and separate for the lesson. We will come back together for closing activities** Children’s Church The lesson will continue into children’s church (more discussion of the lesson from Sunday school) Only for grades K-3 Since the room is downstairs now, kids will line up in the hallway when dismissed from service and walk down together.

Grades 4-6 joining us in BIG church! Sermon Notes (example) Kids’ Station to get their sermon notes each week (Of course, they can use the one in the bulletin if they want!) Folders to keep their sermon notes in so they can do the “this week” section at home with you! Students who complete the sermon notes each month during service will be able to get a small prize (think candy bowl). Students who complete the “this week” section at home for a month will be eligible for a larger prize (think ice cream party).

An evening with CPS… Have a plan! Children should never wander alone; you never know who is waiting down the hall. Churches are easy access points for predators. Plan… Parents (or an approved adult) need to drop off and pick up their child from Sunday school and children’s church. (PLEASE help us with this!) Older siblings can be listed as approved adults as long as they are over 16. Kids will walk together with a teacher to children’s church.

An evening with CPS… Have a plan! Rule of two: A child should never be left alone with an adult. There should always be another teacher or other children in the room. Plan for bathroom breaks... Try to go before class (w/ a parent!) We will take a potty break together when we split up for the lesson. When the kids line up for children’s church and walk down together, they will stop at the bathroom.

General Guidelines for Class Hands and feet to ourselves RESPECT (the teacher, your peers, and yourself) If a warning is issued 3x for behavior that is a distraction, the child will be sent to sit with the parent (in Sunday school or the service).

How can you help us? Promote safety and a positive learning environment Please make sure your child uses the bathroom before Sunday school so we don’t lose time with potty breaks (and service too!). Please drop them off on time to Sunday school and children’s church. Please make an effort to immediately pick up your child after your Sunday school class and service, so the teacher does not have to come find you. Once you pick up your child, you are responsible for your child :) Please support the teacher’s learning environment by encouraging behavior that is Christ-centered.

How can you help us? Promote spiritual growth and maturity Please arrive on time to service and sit with your child to help them complete the sermon notes. They will need you! Look for the weekly letters that will allow you to further the discussion at home. Grades 4-6 parents- help your child with the “this week” section too on their notes! Help your child memorize the Scripture verses we will look at each week.

Questions? Comments? Excitement? We know some of these requests may seem extreme. However, your child’s physical safety and spiritual growth are our main concern, and we want to do all that we can to protect them. Please remember… your child is not the only student that will be attending Dig In, and we have to keep the safety and spiritual growth of the whole group in mind when we make decisions. Are there things we haven’t thought of? Sure. But we promise that we will keep at it to, with God’s help and leading, design a wonderful program for your child. **Please give us your child’s information sheet**
