Family Violence

Is it common? In 2000, ¼ of adults in the U.S. reported having been physically abused as children. 1 out of every 4 girls and 1 out of every 10 boys are victims of sexual aggression. 4 million women a year are battered.

Is it only women? 1/3 of husbands had acted violently to their wives and their wives were almost as likely to used physical violence against their husbands. Most often, female violence is retaliation.

Is it always physical? Verbal and psychological abuse are part of families. Can be more damaging than physical wounds. More than 9 million children suffer from neglect (2000)

Most common form of violence? Sibling Violence Rivalry, jealous, incest, etc.
