Gangs By Drew Perry HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Hells angles Bloods 2/27/12 CCrips Mongals Term 3 Street Law

GANG: 1. a group or band: A gang of boys gathered around the winning pitcher. 2. a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, especially such a group engaging in delinquent behavior. 3. a group of people with compatible tastes or mutual interests who gather together for social reasons: I'm throwing a party for the gang I bowl with. 4. a group of persons working together; squad; shift: a gang of laborers. . 5. a group of persons associated for some criminal or other antisocial purpose: a gang of thieves

GANG MEMBERS Who becomes a gang member? Gang members are normally between 12-24 when they are recruited. Approximately 10 percent are female. People are often recruited in controlled / restrictive environments or through people they don’t know very well.

Why do people join gangs? To feel powerful To have a social status To feel safe Friendship Peer pressure Attention/ acceptance

Solving Gang Problems The problems caused by gangs can be solved in many ways. What I propose is harsher punishments for gang members committing crimes then somebody who is not gang affiliated. Also I believe there should be more police departments with special gang units to crackdown on gang activities.

Crime Prevention Agencies NCPC National crime prevention council CPCA Crime prevention coalition of America B3S Be safe and sound in school
