Worldview Presentation Diane Morris

Background Information Born December 18th Parents divorced at an early age, lived with my mother Two brothers and a sister with many nieces and nephews Married to John for thirteen years Have one son, Dylan Andrew Morris Family is very important Two dogs, three cats and an “oversized” goldfish Born Dec 18th, parents divorced when I was in 6th grade, grew up living with my mom, very close relationship, two brothers live in Olathe, sister lives in Chicago, married in Sept 1997, have three sister in laws and many nieces and nephews with both combined, family is very important, they will always be there no matter what, you don’t know how long you have with someone

Nursing School Johnson County Community College, graduated May 2003 with my Associates Degree Mid America Nazarene University, graduated May 2010 with my Bachelors Degree Growing up not sure what I wanted to do, my dad always told me to be a nurse, I always said no too much blood…well little did I know that I would become an emergency room, I like it because you never know what you are going get

Work Olathe Medical Center Emergency Room 2001-present Started in the ER as a unit secretary, then became a tech now a nurse

Just thought it was cool, accredited heart center, see a lot of acute MI’s and SVT

Connection to Concept Analysis Intuition Working in the ER you have some kind of intuition, feeling of when something is going to bad

Patricia Benner, Novice to Expert Mid-Range Theorists Advanced Beginner to Proficient Starting out IV’s scared me to death, couldn’t do it with preceptor standing over me, Working in the ER for seven years, work weekend option and coordinate, never would I think of myself as an expert, the only nurse who I knew that would be an expert is Joanne Burchfield, she was a nurse for 60+ years in the ER and knew everything and could get away with anything, except for the new computer which she hated

Philosophy of Nursing Broad Term Environment Caring, compassionate Professionalism Multi-layered Spirituality Read nursing philospohy

Jean Watson The Philosophy and Science of Caring “Humans cannot be treated as objects, and that humans cannot be separated from self, other, nature and the larger universe” Watson believes that while her theory encompasses the “whole” of nursing, the emphasis is on the care giver and the care recipient. Key theory terms: Transpersonal caring relationship –connection made between self the spirit and soul, and current moment in time-not necessarily the nurse and the universe Caring moment/caring occasion-involves an action and choice by both the nurse and the other person in which they come together-not necessarily space and time

Katharine Kolcaba Theory of Comfort Nurses identify the patient’s comfort needs. If enhanced comfort is achieved, patients are strengthened to engage in health seeking behaviors or a peaceful death. Don’t agree with everything. Agree about taking care of patients needs and a peaceful death. Taking care of their pain. Combination of physical, psychospiritual, environmental, sociocultural

Nurse’s Creed Lord, let me begin today with your blessing To provide care for those who need me Give me patience to listen Intuition to see beyond the visible Knowledge to practice the art of nursing And the attitude to deliver care with humility Help me to see every patient clearly Unbiased, and with individual respect Help me to face fear and anxiety With kind words and a gentle touch Help me to see the joy and wonder each new day brings And let your healing light shine through my hands
