PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION SERVICES UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI--COLUMBIA PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION SERVICES Jason -- wondering if we should briefly intro ourselves?? Yes. We can do that during this slide and say we’ve both been with the program since the first year. Pre-ETS born in 2015 Our parents are WIOA and VR We began with 23… specialists from a variety of backgrounds, all certified teachers and … Hook Center is home base but we are remote employees… we live where we work -- in different regions throughout Missouri

UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI Hook Center for Educational Renewal Jason Body language between first and second years. From huddled mass to transition heros… today we are a team of 30 specialists, actively serving 466 high schools in 398 districts across the state YEAR TWO!

Students First - Ages 16-21, currently enrolled in Missouri public schools - Who Have IEP’s or 504 Plans - Who are potentially eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation Services Kristen Students first approach Mission… empower students = students first

Senior Interests Realistic Post-Secondary & Employment Goals Ashley’s Story Senior Interests Realistic Post-Secondary & Employment Goals What I want... What I don’t want. Jason Ashley had several ideas for her future No clear path = confusion, frustration, pressure ETW helped to give her the language and some direction for becoming gainfully employed and living independently Empowered, encouraged & inspired

Benefits Focusing on Strengths Visualizing Life After High School Sharing and Spreading the Word Kristen Working with students with more severe disabilities to examine (and shift focus to) their strengths and how we can use those in the future. D.V. - (a month before graduation): I don’t know. I don’t know. I really haven’t thought of that. Me: “Well, that’s why we are doing this...to get you to start thinking about it. :) One high school planning to host a summer work experience, needed a good curriculum for a portion of their day. They were super excited to see the Life Course curriculum and plan to use it this summer!

Looking Ahead Future Goals More Parent Involvement Plan Time There are some elements that are difficult for certain students to answer without help from a parent. Plan Time Explore other features of the curriculum Try out new portions with students Preparing examples for students Creating a file of pictures or icons Kristen
