Qua Regularity & Qua Purpose

Look at the image of the woods. Answer the questions on your sheet

How do you know there is a garden in the wood How do you know there is a garden in the wood? What must have been involved to make it a garden? How do you know a human has been in the garden? What object from the garden would you hand in to the lost property office and why? Why would you not hand in a rock at the lost property office.

Stick in this worksheet and answer the questions.

Two types of teleological argument….. Qua Regularity:   This argues that there is evidence of order in the universe. This must mean that someone has created that order and that someone must be God.   Qua Purpose:   This argues that the universe and things within the universe appear to fit together for some purpose. In the way a machine is made up of parts which work together for a particular function. This implies that the universe has been designed for a particular purpose. This means that someone has created the universe for a reason and that someone must be God. Two types of teleological argument…..

In your reading material you have 4 scholars. William Paley Thomas Aquinas John Wisdom Arthur Brown

Using the questions as support, identify whether the text is ‘qua regularity’ or ‘qua purpose’… Does the philosopher refer to order? If yes highlight a quote that shows this. Does the philosopher refer to purpose or design? Is the argument “qua regularity” or “qua purpose”?
