Outlining Your Narrative How would “The Yellow Ribbon” Plan Look? Hook “They were going to Fort Lauderdale, the girl remembered later.” The author started with a description; “show, don’t tell” fashion. “Vingo was on board from the beginning.” “… they began to notice that Vingo never moved.”

Detail 2 – The girl sat beside Vingo and talked to him and learned he lived in Jacksonville and was in the Navy. Detail 3 – The girl offered him some wine and didn’t question him any further.

Outlining Your Narrative How would “The Yellow Ribbon” Plan Look? Body 2 Detail 1 – The next morning (Howard Johnson’s) the girl insisted Vingo join them for breakfast. He did. Detail 2 – Back on the bus, the girl sat beside Vingo again and he “…slowly and painfully and with great hesitation, he began to tell his story.” Detail 3 – Learned that Vingo might be married, was in prison for 4 years, and that he is headed to see if she tied a yellow ribbon around the tree in Brunswick to say he can come home.

Outlining Your Narrative How would “The Yellow Ribbon” Plan Look? Body 3 Detail 1 – The girl told the others. Vingo’s family picture was shared. They were intrigued and wanted things to work out for Vinglo Detail 2 – When the bus was 20 miles from Brunswick Vingo could not look up any longer. The bus “had a dark hushed mood, full of silence, of absence, of lost years…” Detail 3 – The yellow handkerchiefs were spotted. The bus celebrated! Vingo stayed quiet.

Outlining Your Narrative How would “The Yellow Ribbon” Plan Look? Conclusion – Vingo sat stunned, tree covered in yellow handkerchiefs, “the old con slowly rose from his seat, holding himself tightly, and made his way to the front of the bus to go home.
