What benefits do sports drinks have and are there any alternatives? Starter: When do you sweat? What is sweat made of? – write a recipe for what you think the main ingredient of sweat are…

Sweat Water Mineral ions

Glossary

What goes on in your body when you exercise?! Discuss this on your tables… You might think about energy requirement temperature of the body oxygen requirement Done?! What is the equation for respiration?

When you exercise .. Your cells respire more and therefore require oxygen and glucose to be delivered to them. The heart rate and breathing rate increases to serve the cells with glucose and oxygen. Heat is produced as a biproduct of respiration which means the body temperature increases. The body produces sweat to keep the body temperature normal.

Q: What is the risk of sweating too much? Sweating means you lose water and might become dehydrated. Mineral ions are lost which can cause osmotic imbalance.

What do sports drinks claim to do? GET A LUCAZADE BOTTLE AND COPY THE LABEL

Watch these videos…. Why does Lucozade claim to be better than water? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJgb1VWKzrA&list=PLxWqSExcuQEPbqJiDkKjhLkK2ypGvv_hz&index=8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57u939vALXA&list=PLxWqSExcuQEPbqJiDkKjhLkK2ypGvv_hz

Task Come up with a recipe for a homemade energy drink that would be cheaper than Lucozade. Done? Would it be as effective as lucozade? How could you measure your prediction?

Task; Complete more past paper questions on transport.
