CRAWLERS A web crawler is something that crawls along the index of the world wide web to find the best bits of it. The search engines ask questions like “How many times does the key words turn up on the web page?”. They are sometimes known as spiders because they crawl along the web or the internet. Search engines Search engines are things like google, yahoo, ask and Bing. It doesn't know anything, but it finds pages with your search words in it. The world wide web isn’t a search engine because it is the whole web. The whole web gives you access to pages that may have the answer to what you were searching in. To see more go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W eb_search_engine

Boolean Forget grammar for now. Have you ever realised that when you search AND in your sentence it makes searches smaller, and when you put OR in your sentence it makes the number of pages bigger. So say you are typing: cards with red AND the number two on them. It would come up with about 359,000,000 results but when you type cards with red OR the number two on them it would come up with 392,000,000 results. You see, it makes the number a bit bigger if you put OR in your sentence. Remember, if you want a smaller amount of results put AND in your search, and if you want a bigger amount of results put OR in your search. To see more go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boolean_data_type

making sense of the results First check the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) which is the web address then look further at it at something called a domain. Don’t get confused. Domains sound complicated but they're not. A domain is the end of the web address for example… WARNING! WEBSITES WITH TOP RANKING ARE SOMETIMES PAYED FOR BECAUSE OF ADS LIKE… .com .gov .net /kids .edu .ac.uk .org .co.uk .mil Company Government Network/internet provider Education for kids education establishment Academic Organisation Company just for UK Military

Beware… Not every website is reliable. Don’t get fooled, some people invent clever websites that can trick you into thinking that they are real. Websites are most of the time true, but sometimes they can be hoax or spoof websites. Take Wikipedia, anybody can post anything on it. A website called “dog island” that was made for fun. The people said that you could send your dog to an island ether for holiday, or forever. They even advertised for jobs at fog island, but of coarse it was a spoof.

Esafty? Safe Meeting Accepting Reliable Tell Make sure that you don’t click on things that could ruin your computer or give it a virus. People can send you nasty messages or emails that can include something that could upset your computer. Never ever click on things that someone unknown sends you. Remember that it is not smart or safe to meet up with anyone that you meet online. If you feel like the person that you are meeting is absolutely telling the truth about everything (age, name, adress of the place…) than the first thing that you can do is ask an adult to come with you. Remember the smart rules… Safe Meeting Accepting Reliable Tell
