LEARNING RESOURCES UPDATES Sarah Remijan and Kimberly Kouame Learning and Development 20 July 2018 SARAH Good afternoon! I’m Sarah Remijan, Director, Learning and Development. I’m joined by Kimberly Kouame, Manager, Learning Resources

NEW LEARNING CENTER SARAH How many of you have logged into the Learning Center since X date to see the new Learning Center? PLAY VIDEO

NEW LEARNING CENTER SARAH New Features Courses or groups of courses known as learning plans can be accessed through deep linking Courses available in multiple languages to all learners Better tracking for the individual learner Ability to earn certificates, badges, and points for completing courses providing more incentives to keep learning Ability to create learning paths by role using Learning Plans which is a group of several courses More stable platform Future Enhancements Improved reporting for district leaders Social learning including the ability to share resources ask questions to experts. We are looking for members who might be interested in being experts on a topic in the future.

PETS LEADER’S GUIDE KIM Last year we asked Alliance members for your feedback on how you use the leader’s guide. We used much of your feedback to help implement revisions and improve the leader’s guide this year. Feedback was to keep it the same. Query: Who uses the PETS Leader’s Guide? Have any of you seen the new guide?

SESSIONS KIM The new PETS leader’s guide has a refreshed look in the new brand, with the same easy-to-follow format. Based on your feedback we focused on the sessions that most reflect the club experience. We learned that the role-based sessions for Presidents-elect were most popular and felt to be the best use of time. The old version included 6 role based and 5 general sessions. The new version has the additional 6 training topics sessions in the Leader’s guide.

UPDATED SESSIONS KIM Minor updates were made Refreshed text Reformatted activities but most stayed the same (eg. Attracting new members session activity #2 changed) Some sessions went from 60 minutes to 45 minutes Most worksheets stayed the same Note: Why two membership sessions? The Board asked the Training Committee to review the PETS materials and make sure the membership focus was there.

SESSION SAMPLE KIM Most trainers use the idea exchange, panel, and workshop formats during PETS. To provide variety for your participants, we encourage trainers to use different formats for breakout sessions. Other formats include roundtable discussions and speedmeets. This is an example of the session layout for a workshop. It gives you a short description and a suggested room setup.

POWERPOINT TEMPLATE KIM We kept the same PowerPoint template. Most trainers like creating their own slide deck, so the template is available with pointers to create your own dynamic presentation.

SESSION ACTIVITIES KIM You’ll see mostly the same activities with a revised format to make it easier to follow. We tried to provide two suggested activities for each session for you to consider.

WORKSHEETS KIM Worksheets are included in the sessions when appropriate, and are ready to be edited as needed. Remember that the worksheets are no longer included in the club president’s manual, so trainers can edit them and give your version of the worksheet to participants. This is a worksheet designed to review the online tools available to presidents-elect. Again, the newly revised PETS Leader’s Guide is now available on Rotary.org. Please email any comments or questions on the guide at learn@rotary.org.

LEAD YOUR CLUB SERIES KIM We also revised all of the club officer manuals this year and I’d like to share some highlights of the changes that were made.

LEAD YOUR CLUB: PRESIDENT KIM We have updated the Lead Your Club: President manual. Policies were updated, text was refreshed. No major reorganization.

The Lead Your Club: President manual is sent in July PETS MAILING The Lead Your Club: President manual is sent in July Rotary International DGE distributes to club presidents-elect before PETS District Governors-elect Read before PETS and come with questions Club Presidents-elect KIM I wanted to remind the group that last year was the first year we mailed only the Lead Your Club President’s manual to DGEs in July. We had the manuals online and created an online course for each of the 8 club officer roles. This decision was based on survey feedback. This year with the launch of the new LMS, we are continuing with the mailing and only sending the Lead Your Club President’s manual. We’ve also update the online courses and got rid of the other 7 manuals, transforming the content into online course.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM We’ve transformed the one Club President Basics Course in to a Club President Basics Learning Plan that includes several courses. It is a bundle of courses that presidents should take to prepare for their role.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM This Learning Plan includes 5 courses. It tracks your progress through the Learning Plan. For example you may have been curious about member leads before becoming interested in this Learning Plan. If you took that course already it would appear as complete. It’s not like you would need to take it over again. The same with the materials. If you review the club president basics course, then you want to review what the secretary is learning, there are some documents that are exactly the same, and they would appear as complete even if you hadn’t been in that course before. This helps to let you know that you’ve already reviewed the content and don’t need to read it again. Lots of great tracking features.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM Here is a preview of the Get Ready: Club President Content will appear in the large box where the trophy is. The content list is next to it, Below is a course description and additional resources available in some courses.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM The video, the manual, a PPT, and a word document. All courses have an evaluation, be sure to leave feedback, that’s how we improve.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM My Rotary: Club Administration has all the how to guides for My Rotary business that the president need to manage. Using a Club Management System has information about how to integrate data between RI and the system your club has. Rotary Club Central Resources is the same course as in the old system Online Member Leads is also the same course. The idea is that they can take the content as needed. A president-elect may want to learn everything at once and come back to reference this information later. They might prefer to take the first course and worry about the others when it is time to manage online member leads, or to set goals in Rotary Club Central.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS KIM Another new feature is that documents are searchable. Helping the learner find the resources again.

CLUB PRESIDENT BASICS SARAH We have a learning plan for each club officer. This is something you will want your presidents to know so they can direct their club officers to these courses to help them prepare their teams. For the purpose of this presentation, let’s take a closer look at the club president basics learning plan.

CLUB OFFICER MANUALS SARAH Each Learning Plan is different depending on the way we were able to break up each manual into smaller chunks of learning. SARAH- more images?

PRACTICE LAB SARAH Show of hands, how many know what Rotary’s Practice Lab is? Define if needed. How many have used the Practice Lab to train at PETS? Anyone want to share what they did at PETS using the Practice Lab?

SARAH As of last winter we’ve updated the Practice Lab to include the changes to Rotary Club Central

#1 #2 SARAH You can tell you are in the practice lab by checking for TRN in the URL and the name of the club

INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY SARAH Anyone know where the IA is moving in 2021?

FOR THE FUTURE KIM We gave you some updates now we want to highlight a few things we have in the works for the near future.

Club and District leadership survey FOR THE FUTURE Club and District leadership survey Enhanced reporting for districts from the Learning Center Social learning opportunities in the Learning Center KIM We did this survey back in 2014-15 we will conduct it again this winter. It looks at our resources, the training cycle, and overall trends in training meetings. We will have findings to report next year. We hope to be able to offer districts the ability to view the reports from the Learning Center for members of their district. Additional features will be turned on this year that involve more social learning. For example the ability to share resources, like, dislike, comment on them. The ability to ask an expert on a specific topic questions. This will require members to volunteer to be moderators. It will be similar to the discussion group but a bit more dynamic.

TRAINING TALK – FOR THE LATEST TRAINING INFORMATION KIM Just want to end with a plug for training talk for all of you who are planning training events. Query: Who is subscribed to Training Talk ? Training Talk is our monthly newsletter that includes training news, organizational updates, and links to resources in each issue. This newsletter will give you the latest on newly released online courses.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR PRESIDENTS-ELECT New Learning Center Revised Lead Your Club: President mailed to DGEs in July No more manual for the club officers, all online courses to prepare their teams SARAH
