Vaughan Primary School Online Learning Journal Meeting AG Handover to Phoebe to begin. Introducing Tapestry Wednesday 21st February 2018

Tonight’s Aims To introduce our new online observation system called ‘Tapestry’. To explain how Tapestry works and how you can log in and use it at home. To go through our Tapestry Agreement PL

What is Tapestry? Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. PL

What is a Learning Journal? A learning journal is a record of each child’s learning and shows snap shots of children’s achievements and progress in relation to the EYFS Curriculum. Not every activity they do will be recorded. We are looking for those WOW moments! There may be a new entry fortnightly. Sometimes more, sometimes less. PL Show children’s physical Learning Journey. This works alongside our new Online Learning Journals.

What is the benefit of an Online Learning Journal? It creates a two way communication between us (the EYFS team), and you (the parents and carers). Greater opportunities to extend your child’s learning at home by talking about what your child has done at school. Parent contributions and experiences from outside of school PL This will promote more active motivation. We understand that many children respond to parents questions when asked about their day with, “I don’t know”, “I did nothing”. We understand that children may be more confident to speak at home, so this will allow us to gain a greater understanding of your child and where they are in the early years curriculum.

How does Tapestry work? Tapestry provides each individual child with their own Learning Journal held online. Parents and Carers are emailed a ‘create a password’ link. Your username will be your full email address. All our staff are given a secure log-in too. They can then upload observations, photos or videos; recording children’s achievements and assessing their learning in reference to the EYFS curriculum. CD Tapestry provides each individual child with their own Learning Journal held online. Parents and Carers are emailed a ‘create a password’ . Your username will be your full email address. All our staff are given a secure log-in too. We use Kindl Fire to take photos or videos which are uploaded on to Tapestry, which you all saw at Parents Evening; It is a great record of children’s achievements and assessing their learning in reference to the EYFS curriculum. Which are all highlighted at the bottom of each observation.

Who can access Tapestry? As parents/carers you can access Tapestry by letting Nursery or Reception know your e-mail addresses that you wish to link with the system (limited to 2 per child). Can other relatives join in Tapestry? Although this is not possible, you can choose to show relatives using your app on your phone, tablet or computer at home. CD As parents/carers you can access Tapestry by letting Nursery or Reception know your e-mail addresses that you wish to link with the system (limited to 2 per child). We have been asked Can other relatives join in Tapestry? Although this is not possible, you can choose to show relatives using your app on your phone, tablet or computer at home. But are not permitted to share any log in details.

Photos During Nursery and Reception we often observe your child playing with special friends or as part of a group. Occasionally there may be children in the background of photos or children may be recorded working together. If you do not wish your child to be on photos that may appear in other’s learning journals, please let staff know on the Vaughan Tapestry Agreement. CD During Nursery and Reception we often observe your child playing with special friends or as part of a group. Occasionally there may be children in the background of photos or children may be recorded working together. At Vaughan we have always carried out group observations, where a child is playing with other children, as this demonstrates the great Personal, Social, Emotional Development and Communication and Language skills which we need to evidence. However if you do not wish your child to be on photos that may appear in other’s online learning journals, please let staff know on the Vaughan Tapestry Agreement. For us the benefits of having group observations are: All those parents who tell us their child never knows what did that day, they said they played alone all day. They don’t have any friends! This is a great way for you as parents to gain an insight into their day and the positive relationships they are making at school. (Henry) This can provide a good opportunity for your child to reflect on their learning and relationships with you at home, which you can share with us in the comments. But this is a personal decision so please indicate your preference on the Vaughan Tapestry Agreement.

Our Tapestry Agreement CD We need all policies returned before we can send any emails to publish to the parent domain. Please return as soon as possible. Once all policies have been brought back and checked you will receive a text to tell you that the emails are going out, so please check your inbox regularly and activate as soon as possible.

Where do I start? Provide the school with the email addresses you would like to link which is in the agreement. Go to https://eylj.org/ on your computer or search the app on your Android/iPhone/iPad. The app is called ‘Tapestry Mobile’ and is free to download. Click on the link and create your password. It looks like this… AB Once you have given us an email address, we will set up an account for you. Go to https://eylj.org/ on your computer. Or if you have an iPhone/iPad please visit the iTunes store and download the Tapestry app from the Education section (search for Tapestry Mobile). If you have an Android/Tablet, search for Tapestry learning journal and download. Login using your email address and the password we give you. We strongly recommend that you change your password on your first visit. We are aiming to send the activation link week beginning 5th March once all parents have provided email addresses and completed the policy. If you have not been able to activate it within 24 hours, please let your class teacher know. What is the PIN setting up for? When you access Tapestry through mobile phone or tablet, please set a unique PIN when you log in for the first time. This will be required whenever you return to the application or after the screen has locked.

You will receive an email that looks like this: Getting onto Tapestry You will receive an email that looks like this: You will receive an email that looks like this. Please click the link (create your password) AB

How can I view my child’s Learning Journal? Once logged in, you will see your child’s observations on your home screen in a list – selecting any one of these will open up the observation for you to look at. You may add comments in the box at the bottom of the observation if you would like to - and we would love to receive such comments! BS

How do I add an entry to my child’s Learning Journal? Choose the ‘Add Observation’ option (or the 'plus' icon on your iPhone/iPad/Android) and add the relevant information in the boxes on screen. Photos and videos may be uploaded by choosing the ‘add media’ option. When you have saved your observation, you may go back to the home screen at any time by choosing ‘home’. Please ensure your comments are relevant to the observation. At the bottom of each observation, there is a box where you can ‘Leave a reply’. This allows you to comment on the activities we have been doing. It is included in your child’s Learning Journal. Replies cannot be deleted once they have been added so please make sure they are positive and supportive, as they will be shared with your child when we look at them together.
