Regional Summary North East – 6 Authorities bought allowances and there was a surplus of 19.8% Both South East and West Midlands had the highest surplus at 26.2 % North West region had the lowest surplus at 14.2 %

Final thoughts… 2005/6 BMW sent to landfill was 12,380,966 tonnes. By 2009/10 BMW sent to landfill < 11,200,000 tonnes. Landfill Directive targets won’t be met by trading alone
