Declaration of Independence TOTALLY awesome fun facts and information!

360 View of the Rotunda of the Charters of Freedom National Archives Building; Washington DC

Facts The Declaration of Independence is in the National Archives in Washington DC!  Ben Franklin was the oldest signer at 70 and the youngest signer was 26 (Edward Rutledge) EIGHT SIGNERS were born in Europe What happened on July 4, 1826?? Thomas Jefferson AND John Adams died Unlike National Treasure…the only thing written on the back of the Declaration is ‘Original Declaration of Independence, dated 4th July, 1776’ Measured 24 ¼ by 29 ¾ inches IF you were a member of the Second Continental Congress in 1776 you knew that your life was at risk (reward had been posted for rebel leaders) Humor me…who wrote the Declaration??

MORE FACTS! The original Declaration was written on parchment (animal skin treated with lime) The case the Declaration is in IS bullet-resistant It is housed in a specially sealed encasement containing argon with controlled humidity to keep the parchment flexible…it is also closely guarded At night the documents are stored in an underground vault
