WELCOME! High School Guidance Counselors: Amanda Peterson and Carrie Engelbrecht Diploma Paths and Requirements

Diploma Paths Core 40 (40 credits) Academic Honors (47 credits) Technical Honors (47 credits)

What is a credit? How do I obtain credits? Pass a class= earn 1 credit Can earn 7 credits per semester/14 per year You must obtain credits in progression in order to advance to next grade level.

Core 40 REQUIREMENTS ENGLISH- 4 YEARS: ENGLISH 9, 10, 11, 12 MATH (Minimum 3 years) Must earn 6 math credits grades 9- 12: ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA II, PRE- CALCULUS & TRIG, or TRIG. & PROBABILITY – STATISTICS, AP Calculus, BC Calculus SOCIAL STUDIES- 3 YEARS: WORLD HISTORY, U S HISTORY, GOVERNMENT & ECONOMICS SCIENCE- 3 YEARS: 1-BIOLOGY, 2-CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, OR ICP, 3-EARTH OR ENVIRONMENTAL, Bio II, Chem. II, Organic-Bio. Chem. Foreign Languages: Not required but highly recommended to take one or two years for better college preparation.

Academic Honors 3.0 GPA, required courses C- or better ENGLISH- 4 YEARS: ENGLISH 9 (Honors optional), 10 (Honors optional), 11 Honors, 12 Honors MATH- 4 YEARS: ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, ALGEBRA II, PRE-CALCULUS/TRIG or TRIG & PROBABILITY /STATISTICS, AP Calculus, BC Calculus SOCIAL STUDIES- 3 YEARS: WORLD HISTORY, U S HISTORY (Honors Optional), GOVERNMENT HONORS & ECONOMICS HONORS SCIENCE- 3 YEARS: 1-BIOLOGY, 2-CHEMISTRY or PHYSICS 3-Most AH students take Chem. II, Bio. II, or Physics for 3rd year of Science. 4- (optional) Organic-Bio-Chemistry. FOREIGN LANGUAGES: 3 YEARS SPANISH FINE ART CREDITS: 2 CREDITS

Technical Honors Can be paired with Core 40 or Academic Honors Earn 6 Career-Technical Credits in addition to required courses for C40 or AH track. Earn 6 Dual Credits from approved list. Supplied on PCHS Guidance Site. Must achieve a “C-” or higher in each course Must achieve a “B”/3.0 overall GPA 2 credits in Foreign Languages recommended. Complete specific AH requirements, or take the Accuplacer, COMPASS, or Work Keys test.

Tech Honor Helpful Tips: If you are interested in possibly pursuing a career that is industrial/technology based, you may want to enroll in one of the following as freshman: 1-Introduction to Machine Tools ( 2 periods/one semester). This is a dual credit course 2-Intro. to Agriculture or Ag. Power Structures & Tech. This is a dual credit course. 3-Intro to Communication, Construction, Manufacturing, and/or Transportation (each one semester) Also, consider taking Spanish if you have room in your schedule and/or have not yet decided you are going to do Academic Honors.

Required for all students PE (2 semesters) Each 1 Semester: Preparing for College and Careers Introduction to Business Health Speech

Other requirements for graduation ISTEP+ Grade 10 (must pass to graduate, can take up to twice a year until you pass)

BAND, AH & TH Schedule Example English 9 Geometry Biology Preparing for College and Careers/Intro. to Business Spanish I Concert Band (Counts as Fine Arts Credit) Introduction to Communication & Construction

Weighted grades 4.5 Grading scale Weighted grades for all Honors 2018-2019 ALL Cohorts will be weighted (Began with Class of 2019) English 9 Honors English 10 Honors English 11 Honors Advanced Composition, English Literature (Eng. 12 Honors) Geometry Honors, Algebra II Honors, Pre- Calculus/Trigonometry Honors US History Honors, Economic Honors, Government Honors
