Greek Sky God Also known as CENEUS, EPIPHANES Relationships Father: Cronus Mother: RHEA Wife: HERA ZEUS is married to the long-suffering Hera but spends most of his time lusting after Goddesses, mortals, and animals

History ZEUS was the king of the gods, and god of the sky and weather, law and order, destiny and fate. He was depicted as a regal, mature man with a sturdy figure and dark beard. His usual attributes were a lightning bolt, royal sceptre and eagle.

Story of Zeus and Prometheus Prometheus wanted to give the gift of fire to man He took fire from Zeus and gave it to man, but this was against the wishes of Zeus When Zeus found out about this, he arrested Prometheus and had him chained to a mountain After Prometheus was captured, Zeus had a girl named Pandora created Pandora was given as a punishment to man

Zeus v. The Giants The Giants were a tribe of one hundred Giants born of Gaia the Earth. At the instigation of Gaia they made war on the gods but were destroyed in the ensuing battle with the help of Herakles. The Giants were depicted as either hoplite warriors dressed in armour and wielding spears or as primitives wearing panther skins armed with rocks and flaming torches. The Giants were defeated and buried under ground In Italy the turning of these buried giants was believed to be the cause of volcanism and thermal activity

The Jupiter de Smyrene The Jupiter de Smyrne, Discovered: Smyrna in 1680 Original Creator: Unknown The sculpture was presented to Louis XIV as Aesculapius but restored as Zeus in 1686, by Pierre Granier, who added the upraised right arm brandishing the thunderbolt. Formerly in the 'Allée Royale', (Tapis Vert) in the Gardens of Versailles, now conserved in the Louvre Museum
