The outlook of the insurance provider B NELVA-PASQUAL – June 2010

La Mutuelle des Motards Motorcyle insurance How « the risk » is changing Insurance solutions The outlook of the insurance provider

Created by and for the motorcycle riders in 1983, thanks to the FFMC ( riders founder members) Aim : to make easier access to motorcycles by offering the most adapted insurance cover No shareholders : profits benefit insured riders Today : insured riders motorcycles 430 employees 100 volunteers La Mutuelle des Motards

What can the insurance policy cover ? third party : cover injury caused by the at-fault driver, most of the time compulsory, with limits depending on country laws. Third party property is compulsory too in Europe and Canada but not in Australia Motorcycle damages : in case of accident, fire and theft or natural event The rider : personal cover (not compulsory, except in some Australian States), riders equipment, legal aid, assistance A question of frequency and severity Motorcycle insurance

Riders are changing : The motorcycle as a way to avoid traffic jams and pollution : a new population of riders Riders are getting older New riders acting as consumers : price competition, web site quotations, law Risks are changing : Accident frequency has decreased in the last 10 years Cost of injury claims has increased New « professionnal » riders (taxi, rental, messenger) How the risk is changing – French example

In a situation where : The EU is modifying capital rules for insurance companies (2013): insurance rates are likely to increase in the future Market competition leads to « good risk hunting » : insurers use more and more factors to select risk -> Insurance rates for beginners could increase in the future.

Associate training and insurance cover : to promote and adapt training to situations, equipment, to direct beginners to suitable motorcycles Money is not enough : to aid victims (psychological support, counselling services to adapt their home, to return to work) New technologies : web, ITS Adjust insurance cover to professionnals Insurance solutions in France
