Mechanical Safety lift for Bench Press Machine Project by Lane Caffaro Partner Chris Potts Advisor Jennifer Currey One of the biggest problems for weight lifters is working out without a human spot. In order to maximize your potential muscle growth, working the muscles to failure is ideal. This becomes unsafe and a big problem on a bench press when there is no human spotter available to help. Our design is intended to help any lifter work out on their own without a human spot and still remain safe. This bench press will electronically sense the movement of the bar and mechanically help lift the bar when the lifter is in trouble. We are hoping this machine can prove to be efficient with the bench press and then be implemented on other workout machines such as the squat rack.
