9/12 Opener Convert the following speeds and show your math! A commercial airline flies on average 900 km/hr what is it’s speed in m/s? (1 kilometer = 1000 meters) The average speed of a person walking is 3 mi/hr what is this in m/s? (1 mile = 1610 meters) A bike traveling 15 km/hr travels at how many miles per an hour? (1 mile = 1610 meters)

9/14 Opener Ex: 3𝑚−0𝑚 1𝑠−0𝑠 = 3m/s Time (s) Distance (m) Velocity (m/s) x 1 3 2 6 12 4 16 5 18 24 Calculate velocity in the table above remember v=∆d/∆t Ex: 3𝑚−0𝑚 1𝑠−0𝑠 = 3m/s

Motion Diagrams Ticker Tape Diagrams Vector Diagrams Distance between dots-objects change in position Fast moving objects-farther apart Slow moving objects-dots are closer together Vector Diagrams Represent the direction and magnitude of a vector with an arrow Arrow size represents the magnitude . . . . . . . . . . . Ticker Tape: Where is the athlete fastest? Slowest? What would a ticker tape of this look like? Page 34 QUIZ Vector Diagram Which shows constant speed? Acceleration?

Position-Time Graphs X=time Y=Position Slope (or shape) of the position-time graph can clue you into the velocity and acceleration of an object. . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . What is happening to the velocity in each graph? If we were to draw ticker tape diagrams what would it look like? PAGE 43 & 47 QUIZ . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..

Velocity-Time Graphs Shape determines the motion of the object Slope determines the acceleration As lines approach the x-axis they slow down As lines move away from the x-axis they speed up What is the slope of the graph on the left? What does this mean about acceleration? An object with constant velocity is not accelerating What is the slope of the graph on the right? What does this mean about acceleration? It is accelerating in the positive direction QUIZ Page 55

Linear Slope= ΔY/ΔX = rise/run= m/s = Velocity! Calculus  Mathematically a velocity time graph is the derivative of a position time graph. The slope (either a numerical value or equation) of the p-t graph is the equation used to make our v-t graph. What we can do algebraically is to calculate the slope of a p- t line in order to determine velocity. Linear Slope= ΔY/ΔX = rise/run= m/s = Velocity! In contrast the integral (antiderivative) of a v-t graph will give us the equation for our p-t graph. We can instead find the area under a v-t graph to determine an objects displacement.

MOAR CALCULUS Change in object motion can be defined at even higher levels. We know that acceleration is a change in velocity over time. Did you know that jerk is the change in acceleration. Or that jounce is a change in jerk Or crackle a change in jounce… And finally pop a change in crackle? SNAP! Each is a derivative of the prior.
