“The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation “The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation.” - Henry David Thoreau

7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:7-10 (ESV)

FIVE COMMON THIEVES (LIES WE MEN BELIEVE) THAT KEEP US FROM LIVING

THIEF #1: THE CONTROL THIEF – “IF I TRIED HARDER, I COULD GET EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE UNDER CONTROL.”

THIEF #2: THE GREED THIEF – “MORE IS BETTER.”

THIEF #3: THE TIME THIEF – “EVERYTHING IS URGENT.”

THIEF #4: THE PEOPLE THIEF – “MY GOOD FEELINGS ABOUT WHO I AM STEM FROM RECEIVING APPROVAL FROM OTHERS.”

THE ACHIEVEMENT THIEF – “I AM WHAT I DO.”

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: Jesus proclaims in v.10 that he comes to give life “more abundantly How would you define a life filled with abundance?
Are there things (“common thieves” or “lies we believe”) that you do, that you separate from your life of following Jesus? What are they? What are you seeking in them that you do not want Jesus to interfere with?
How do you see the thief kill, steal, and destroy the life of people that you know? When you see this happen, how should you respond? To what degree is this quality of life a reality to you? What qualities in your life might convince an unbeliever that you possess the full life Jesus gives? How might you experience this abundant life to a greater degree?
