Welcome to Mrs. Schnatz’s Class 2017-2018

All About Mrs. Schnatz Teaching at St. Mary’s for 7 years Graduate of Sacred Heart University Masters in Childhood Education (1-6) Professional Certification: Childhood Education & Students With Disabilities 3 children: Lilliana, Jake & Delilah

Classroom Policies: Homework & Planners Students copy their homework in the beginning of each class into their planner. The homework will also be on sharp school. Please check daily! Math homework is given every night, even weekends. If an assignment is not completed, a missing homework slip will be sent home to be signed. The student will need to complete the assignment. 3 missing homework assignments = 1 demerit All tests will be sent home in a test folder, that is to be signed and returned the next day. In addition, students will need to make corrections on all mistakes.

Policies Vocabulary: Each unit will begin with vocabulary given on my class page A pre-test will be given before each unit Positive: tickets earns a prize & whole class “I like what I see”. Behavior Chart: Green: Ready to learn Yellow: Lose a ticket Orange: 2 paragraphs explaining the misbehavior and signed by a parent Pink: Parent Contact: Demerit/Conduct

Policies Absences: If your child is absent, they are required to make up the missed work. Band Lessons: It is your child’s responsibility to find out and make up all the work that is missed when they are out of the room.

Extra Learning Extra Learning: @ 7:40am on Tuesdays If your child is struggling with a concept, please have him/her come in. Extra Learning: @ 7:40am on Tuesdays Begin next week 9/19 Please be on time! Those children who are unable to attend in the morning, will be provided with extra learning during recess as needed.

Units of Study: Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems. (long division) Gain knowledge with factors and multiples. Generate and analyze patterns

Numbers and Operations in Base-Ten Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers (up to hundred thousand) Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

Numbers and Operations: Fractions Extend understanding of equivalence and ordering. Build fractions from unit fractions by applying and extending previous understandings of operations on whole numbers. Connect fractions to decimals. Fraction Pizza Project & Fraction Game Project

Measurement and Data - Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements from a larger unit to a smaller unit. - Represent and interpret data (line plots) - Geometric measurement: understand concepts of angles and measuring angles (protractor)

Geometry - Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles.

Splash Math Splash Math is an educational, computer program that provides comprehensive coverage of the curriculum  Students will be given splash math lessons for homework to reinforce the skills learned in class. Reports will be printed at conferences to see your child’s progress.
