Current Online instant survey in the field of resource efficiency in production © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11. November 2018

Result More than 80% of respondents have an efficiency project running 30% of respondents do not feel sufficiently informed Estimated main potential is energy – not material About 80 percent go out of efficiency gains in the energy sector. Only a third locates potential for materials only 20% see water potential a quarter locates potential for the equipment Environmental protection and long-term earnings prospects are the main motivators for efficiency measures © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11. November 2018

Interpretation and Conclusions The issue of resource efficiency as a holistic approach to efficiency is not already arrived in the companies Where it has arrived - it's more about energy Energy-efficiency has reached due to the strong media awareness already the companies and efficiency measures are implemented The true potential of resource efficiency in production - myth or reality? Personal opinion: simple (not systemic) efficiency gains (eg: blend optimization, reduce waste, etc.) done early - more potential is buried deeper We need applicable examples of resource efficiency for each subbranches – with estimated ROI-times We need face-to-face consulting for implementation We need fostering or financing models for implementation © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11. November 2018

Barriers to the implementation of resource efficiency: Energy costs Reliability of new systems Technical experience Exclusive focus on production targets Technical problems lack of capital lack of time © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11. November 2018

Challanges It took a long time to display the advantages of energy-efficiency – for resource efficiency it will be the same Penetration not by ecology, but about economic/financial aspects - target :"marriage of ecology and economy – double win-win" Fight between (short-term) ROI and (long-term) TCO Win the (opinion-forming) personnel (outside of the environmental division) Convince decision makers – not (only) the tecnical experts Management of changeprozesses Ressource efficiency in companies are real projects – no measures capital raising © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11. November 2018

Agenda Upper Austria the way to support Greentech Critical factors of success to support SME and core support-activities Resource efficiency: current experiences, success-stories and identified challanges Current initiatives in the field of ressource efficiency © Clusterland Oberösterreich GmbH 11.
